A free, independent tool that helps UK residents find NHS dentists actually accepting new patients.
finddentist.co.uk was built in 2026 in response to the ongoing NHS dental crisis. By that time, millions of UK residents had spent over two years unable to register with an NHS dentist — with BBC, Guardian and ITV reporting weekly stories of people resorting to "DIY dentistry".
The problem we're solving
The official NHS Find a Dentist tool lists every surgery in England, but the "accepting new patients" flag is updated by the surgeries themselves and is often months out of date. Someone might phone twenty practices in a row before finding one that'll take them.
finddentist.co.uk closes that gap in three ways:
- Daily sync with NHS data. We pull the latest information from the NHS Directory of Healthcare Services every day, including the official accepting-new-patients flags.
- Patient verification. Anyone who phones a surgery can report back the real status — three matching reports lock in a verified flag.
- Honest UX. Status badges, last-verified dates, and filters that actually filter. No dark patterns.
Who runs this site
finddentist.co.uk is run independently. We are not affiliated with the NHS, NHS England, or any dental practice. We don't accept payment from surgeries for listing or ranking.
How we make money
The site shows ads from Google AdSense to cover server and development costs. Listings and ranking are never influenced by ads.
Coverage
We currently list all NHS dental practices in England (over 6,000 surgeries). Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own systems and we're working on those next.
